Following the European Film Market at the Berlin International Film Festival, where TrustNordisk presented a package of new promo reels, the Danish international sales agency has closed deals for six Nordic films.
“Scandinavian films still have a great brand,” said Rikke Ennis, managing director of TrustNordisk. “It gives us a feeling of reassurance to see our films being sold for distribution worldwide after Berlin.”
Danish director Jesper W Nielsen's The Day Will Come - his return to the big screen after six years of working for television, starring Lars Mikkelsen and Sofie Gråbøl - has been licensed to Benelux (Cherry Pickers), Latin America (California Filmes), the former Yugoslavia (Cinemania) and Turkey (Sinema TV Yay). It will open in Denmark on 21 April.
Meanwhile, Danish director Nicolo Donato's Across the Waters - following a Jewish family fleeing Nazi-occupied Denmark in 1943 - has been picked up for the United Kingdom (by StudioCanal UK) and Turkey (Sinema TV Yay).
Norwegian director Erik Skjoldbjærg´s Pyromaniac, about an arsonist in a small community who is one of the village firemen, will now be released in Latin America (through California Filmes), Korea (Sidus FNH), the former Yugoslavia (Cinemania) and Turkey (Sinema TV Yay).
Norwegian director Vibeke Idsøe's The Lion Woman, portraying a little girl who was born in 1912 with fine yellow hair all over her body, including her face, has found distribution in the Czech Republic (Fenix Distribution), Estonia (EstinFilm), Benelux (September Film), South America (California Filmes), the former Yugoslavia (Cinemania), Turkey (Sinema TV Yay) and Hong Kong (EDKO Films).
Finnish director Saara Cantell's Devil's Bride, depicting a witch hunt on the Åland Islands in the 17th century, has been snapped up for Latin America (California Filmes), Estonia (EstinFilm), Turkey (Sinema TV Yay), South-East Asia (Golden River Thailand) and the former Yugoslavia (Cinemania).
Finally, Swedish director Lisa Ohlin's Danish feature Walk With Me, following a Danish soldier who has lost both legs on a mission in Afghanistan as he recuperates at a Danish rehabilitation centre, has been acquired for Brazil (by Alpha Filmes), the former Yugoslavia (Fivia) and France (KMBO).
