The international success of Nikolaj Arce´s A ROYAL AFFAIR keeps continuing.

The critically acclaimed and award-winning drama starring Mads Mikkelsen, Alicia Vikander and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard just recently opened in Australia, grossing in over $ 540.000 thus beating titles such as ITALIAN FOR BEGINNERS (Scherfig, 2000) and AFTER THE WEDDING (Bier, 2006).

"In just two weeks, A ROYAL AFFAIR is now the highest grossing Danish language film of all time at the Australian box office. The screen average increased 10% in Week 2 after an already strong opening week and on track to grossing more than USD$1million. We are thrilled at the way that this film has enchanted local audiences.", says Paul Wiegard, Managing Director of Madman Entertainment.

In UK A ROYAL AFFAIR is equally making B.O. history. Currently in its 5th week and with over £300.000 in B.O, the film surpasses previous record-holders like THE CELEBRATION (Vinterberg, 1999), THE IDIOTS (Trier, 1999) and MIFUNE (Kragh-Jacobsen, 1999) - making it the biggest Danish language film in Britain of all time.

Next English-speaking territory to release the film is the US in November with Magnolia on board.

A ROYAL AFFAIR has been sold to over 78 countries and premiered worldwide at the 62th Berlinale, where it won the Silver Bear for Best Script (Nikolaj Arcel, Rasmus Heisterberg) and Best Actor (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard). The film opened domestically in March this year. Here the film went straight to # 1 and has to date grossed over USD$ 6 millions making it to the Top-3 of best sold historical films in Danish film history.

Producing trio of A ROYAL AFFAIR consists of Louise Vesth, Sisse Graum Jørgensen, and Meta Louise Foldager for Zentropa Entertainments. Executive producers are Lars von Trier, Peter Aalbæk Jensen and Peter Garde.
