Director Nils Malmros´ SORROW AND JOY has been selected as Denmark´s official entry for the 87th Academy Awards® in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Director Nils Malmros is one of Danish films most significant personalities and during the last forty years his films and characters have always had a strong autobiographical element. Being his most personal film to date, his 11th feature SORROW & JOY is no exception as it depicts a horrifying chapter in his own life.
Starring Jakob Cedergren (SUBMARINO, 2010), Helle Fagralid (1864, 2014), SORROW AND JOY tells the story about filmmaker Johannes and his wife, schoolteacher Signe as they experience the biggest sorrow and misfortune one can ever imagine. Nevertheless, in all the hopelessness they must try to reach for mutual and mature love in order to continue life after death.
SORROW AND JOY celebrated its world premiere last year at Rome International Film Festival.
